Hospital radio to get more airtime
AFTER eight years of pleading for
more time on air, a local hospital broadcasting service has been granted its
request
Starting next month, the Hull and
East Riding Hospital Broadcasting Service, through the co-operation of the Hull
Telephones Department, will broadcast to six hospitals in the area for 24 hours
each week.
Up to February last the service
had only two and a half hours' broadcasting a week. Since then it has built the
time up to seven hours, but this was not enough for its needs.
The service is run by amateurs,
whose aim is to produce entertainment designed to have a special appeal for
hospital patients and their relatives.
Up to the beginning of this year,
broadcasts to hospitals went out by landline twice a week from the Wellington
Street, Hull, studio.
'But with an average of 300
requests from patients, or messages from relatives to patients, it is just not
possible to fit them all in' said Mr Ashley Howard, a member of the committee.
