Hospital radio volunteers were today celebrating the perfect pick me-up - a much needed lottery cash boost.
The popular Kingstown Radio has been awarded £5,000 through the National Lottery's Awards For All programme.
The station serves patients at Hull Royal Infirmary, Princess Royal Hospital, Cottingham's Castle Hill Hospital, Beverley Westwood and Hedon Road Maternity Hospital.
Staff are delighted with the award, which takes them one step closer to reaching their target of raising £21,000 this year. The money will help provide better programmes for the patients.
The station's chairman John Fulstow said 'This is an enormous boost to the appeal and we are delighted.
'There will be enormous benefits for patients, staff and visitors to the hospital.'
Kingstown Radio became a charity in 1961 and began broadcasting 24 hours a day in 1999.
Presenter John Morgan, said: ' The £21,000 we aim to raise will mean we can get rid of our old system that has fallen into a state of disrepair. We also hope to install bedside entertainment to every bed.'
