Radio station on air
A RADIO station is going on air this Christmas for the first time in 33 years.
Kingstown Radio, which usually transmits down landlines to local hospitals, has won a special licence which enables it to go FM for a 28-day period.
Several national radio and TV personalities will attend the opening in December - but as yet their names are being kept secret.
Until January 2, radio professionals and Kingstown Radio presenters will broadcast from Princes' Quay by day and by night from their usual pitch in Kingston General Hospital, Beverley Road.
Publicity Officer John Fulstow, whose father Ken set up the station, said: 'Although we have been going some 30 years, patients and staff are not aware of what we are doing.'
The FM station is calling on financial support from local businesses and advertisers.
Funds raised will be ploughed back into hospital radio, to upgrade equipment and maintain a high professional standard.
