Mayor hits airwaves
BEVERLEY'S Mayor, Neville
Holgate, hit the airwaves this week with a broadcast on local hospital radio.
Coun. Holgate chatted to hospital
patients about his life in Beverley and his hopes for the future of the town.
He also played some of his
favourite records, including Billy Fury's Halfway To Paradise, Lady in Red by
Chris De Burgh and a traditional rendition of Jerusalem.
He was a guest of Kingstown
Hospital Radio, which broadcasts programmes for six hospitals in the area, Hull
Royal Infirmary, Kingston General, Beverley Westwood, Princess Royal, Castle
Hill and Hedon Road maternity.
Hospital Radio is a registered
charity, staffed by unpaid volunteers who broadcast 24 hours a day from a
studio at Hull Royal.
One of them is Dave Hutchins, of
Beverley, who first joined hospital radio in 1972 and now presents a programme
on Monday and Wednesday afternoons.
The station broadcasts on 1350 mw
or am and funds are raised by having the programmes sponsored by local
companies.
Mr Hutchins said they are looking
for some more sponsors, and would also like to hear from friends and relatives
of patients in the hospitals, who can cheer them up by sending in a request.
Anyone wanting to contact the
station should ring or write to the studio at Hull Royal Infirmary, tel (01482)
