Hospital radio studio opened
HULL's new hospital broadcasting
studio in Beverley Road was officially opened last night my Miss Hull Show.
Attractive Margaret McGloughlin,
who was recently a hospital patient herself, marked the opening by cutting a
special cake decorated with a chocolate emblem of the hospital broadcasting
service.
MAYOR PRESENT
The ceremony, which was broadcast
live for patients, took place below the first floor of the £2,000 studio which
began operating in March. Among the VIP's present was the Mayor of Beverley,
Coun. Claude Sonley.
Mr Ashley Howard, chairman of the
voluntary organisation began by telling them they hoped to expand and provide a
better service for patients.
Sir John Dudding, chairman of the
Humberside Area Health Authority and president of the hospital broadcasting
service, said he had a lot of 'ups and downs' as chairman of the authority and
recently there had been many 'downs'.
'I regard an evening like this,
spent among people who give real good service to the patients in their spare
time, as one of the ups, and I thoroughly enjoy it.' he said.
Sir John said he was sorry his
predecessor was not present and he paid tribute to all she had done for the
hospital services in Hull.
Miss MaGloughlin then thanked
everyone for the new facilities on behalf of the patients.
The new studio, which is housed
in a room in Red Cross House, replaces the service's former premises in the Old
Town which were damaged by fire.
