Royal Radio Boost
THE Scarlet pimpernel made sure
Hull's Hospital Broadcasting Service was not in the red last night!
For actor Donald Sinden who is
playing the role at the city's New Theatre, passed on a £1,500 cheque from the
Royal Jubilee Trust Fund.
Hull and East Riding Broadcasting
is now close to reaching its £2,500 target to re-equip its Beverley Road
studio.
Some of the equipment still being
used is that which was installed 25 years ago when the Hull studio opened.
The trust fund was set up in 1977
to support young people helping others in the community.
The hospital broadcasting team
decided to apply as they have many young members, who also gain valuable
training.
Treasurer Melvyn England, who received
the cheque, said about seven people in the last year had moved into
professional radio.
Secretary of the Jubilee Trust's
Humberside branch, Mr Paul Clarke said the committee aimed to distribute
£16,000 in a year.
He urged people under 25 who may
qualify to contact him on telephone: Hull 867131 ext. 3194.
They also run the Prince of Wales
Trust to help disadvantaged youngsters, mainly by giving smaller grants to
individuals.
