New studios for Hull's hospital broadcasters
HULL'S HOSPITAL broadcasting
service will soon be moving into new studios built by volunteers
The part-time volunteers who
provide the radio service for Hull's five major hospitals have been
broadcasting from fire-damaged premises on Wellington Street.
But on March 2nd the first
programme will be transmitted from new studios at 98, Beverley Road, Hull,
which has cost approximately £2,000.
FUND-RAISING
The internal structure and
decoration of the Beverley Road studios have been solely the work of six
volunteer broadcasters. Money for the building came from donations from various
organisations and fund-raising functions.
But the most expensive part of
moving has proved to be the buying of a sound-mixer, which has accounted for
£500 of the £2,000.
With the new improved studios the
service hopes to be able to put out more programmes.
At the moment, because the
service is in the process of moving, programmes are only being broadcast for
three-and-a-half hours a week.
It is also hoped that the Hull
and East Riding Hospital Broadcasting Service will be able to transmit to more
hospitals in the area, such as the maternity hospitals. At present programmes
go out to the Hull Royal Infirmary, Sutton Annexe, Kingston General, Castle
Hill and Westwood hospitals.
With more ambitious programmes,
such as inter-ward quizzes and play readings planned for the future, the
service has appealed for more volunteer technicians, broadcasters and back-room
boys.
