Just what the doctor ordered!

Hospital patient Mrs Marie Murray got the surprise of her life last night - a big kiss from her stage hero.

Mrs Murray who has spent the past three months in Hull Royal Infirmary, has been a fan of Hull-born David Whitfield since he cut his first 78 record. So she was delighted when David and comedian Norman Collier strolled into Ward 50 for a chat.

The meeting was arranged by the organisers of the Hull Hospital Broadcasting Company who run a radio service for five local hospitals.

Mr Ashley Howard explained, 'Mrs Murray often rings us for requests, and more often than not it's for David Whitfield record.

'He was in town last night, and we thought it would be a good idea to try and get him to come along and meet Marie. He agreed, and he also asked Norman Collier to come' said Mr Howard.

David and Norman were appearing at Tiffany's night club, Hull.

'They had a chat, and Marie was over the moon when David gave her a great big kiss' said Mr Howard. 'She's a great fan of his, She's got all his old 78 records.'
